Hello CLE Parents and Friends,
Winter is still here and the chances of school closures or delays may occur. You will be notified through the Global Connect automated calling system alerting you to changes in the school day. With wintry weather, it is important for children to dress in warm clothes for outdoor recess. Every student, unless there is a medical concern, has recess at least three days of the five day school week. Mrs. Andrews, School Nurse, has only a limited number of hats and gloves to loan out. Many older students are wearing shorts to school during these winter months. I do not encourage this due to safety concerns related to possible building evacuations and/or bus problems. They will need long pants for recess.Thank you for your cooperation.
Upcoming Events:
PTO Meeting at 3:15 in Library on Tuesday, February 16th.
A Winter Fun Day is being planned for February. Please watch for the announcement to come home with your student.
CLE will host a Heart Hop-a Thon on March 11th, a scheduled half day of school for students. More information on this soon.
Combined Band at the Linesville Campus on March 17th.
Kindergarten Registration/Screening on March 18th.
Spring Pictures on March 30th.
We appreciate the many parents who attended Parent Teacher conferences in January. Please know that you are welcome to contact or visit (please call first) the school at any time. You do not have to wait for a formal Open House or Parent/Teacher Conference date. Calling first for a classroom visit is important because of scheduled events that would not be conducive to visitors in the classroom. An example of this might be a day of state or local assessments, which occur throughout the school year at every grade level.
Speaking of State Assessments, the Reading and Math PSSA window is April 7-April 16th. Fifth grade Writing PSSA will occur April 19-23rd and Fourth Grade Science is April 26th - April 30th. Looks like we'll be testing throughout Grades 3-6 during the month of April; immediately following our Spring Break. Although always important, good attendance and healthy students and teachers will keep our test scores on the rise.
Is Spring just around the corner? As I recall, our famous ground-hog did see his shadow and the snow falling outside my window may be a testament to six more weeks of winter. Stay warm.
